I did the exercise five years ago and I'm doing it again now. It's a great gift you can give to yourself. Setting a 10-year vision and the goals that support it allows you to create a clear picture of an ideal future and what it takes to get there.
The power of the exercise is based on two opposing but related aspects:
Jumping 10 years into the future inspires you to dream big because it removes the constraints of time, money and knowledge.
Ending with practical actions to be implemented tomorrow makes the whole exercise concrete and tangible.
How does it work?
Have a night to yourself, with good music and why not a good glass of wine. You need a moment to yourself, where no one will bother you. Start projecting yourself 10 years from now. To help you, ask yourself the following questions:
In 10 years I am… ?
In 10 years I feel… ?
In 10 years I contribute by… ?
In 10 years my achievements include… ?
In 10 years I’ve experienced… ?
In 10 years I love… ?
In 10 years I’m surrounded by… ?
In 10 years I’m a point of inspiration and influence for… ?
In 10 years I’m helping to bring into the world… ?
Then group your thoughts into three categories: career, personal and health. Normally, you're going to see more in one category than another. But that's okay! Then select only 3 things per category. 3 in career, 3 in personal and 3 in health, for a total of 9 points.
Once you've chosen the 9 fundamental things that make up your 10-year vision, the real game begins! Then you take it down a level and project yourself to 5 years. You then take it down a level and project yourself to 5 years, on each of the 9 points.
Then repeat the exercise. What does the dream mean one year from now? What do I have to do tomorrow as a concrete action to take a first step?
Example: If you dream of having 3 children in 10 years, maybe it would be good to have the second one in 5 years? Maybe it would be good to have a first child next year? Maybe it would be good to invite my partner to dinner this week to discuss it together?
Now you get the point! Or if you don't see it, send me an email !

“Failure is not having the courage to try, nothing more and nothing less. The only thing standing between most people and their dreams is the fear of failure. Yet failure is essential to success in any endeavor. Failure tests us and allows us to grow. It offers us lessons and guides us along the path of enlightenment. The teachers of the East say that every arrow that hits the bull’s eye is the result of one hundred misses. It is a fundamental Law of Nature to profit through loss. Never fear failure. Failure is your friend.”
