The top-earning writer on the paid newsletter platform Substack (the one I’m using) earns more than $500,000 a year from reader subscriptions. The top content creator on Podia, a platform for video courses and digital memberships, makes more than $100,000 a month. I'm not even talking about the instagram or youtube influencers...
The new digital platforms allow people to make a living using their individuality, all without any technical skills required. These platforms give suppliers a greater ability to build a network of customers, more support in growing their businesses and better tools to monetize in the best possible way. In the process, they are fuelling a new model of Internet-based entrepreneurship.
“Digital nomad”, “company of one”, call it whatever you want.
We can agree that the ultimate luxury is to be able to live from your passion, while managing your time the way you want to. We may disagree is the fact that anyone can do it. Let me think otherwise. Anyone can do it, no matter how talented and passionate you are. If you like to write, start your own newsletter. If you like to talk, start your podcast. And better yet, if you like the camera, launch your TikTok!
Don't think about monetization because it will paralyze you more than anything else. The most important thing is to jump! You will make your parachute while falling!
Welcome to the passion economy !

I know it’s hard to remember back this far, but people used to shop in physical stores. For fun…
Although the idea of “shoppable TV” has been around since at least the 1980s, we now not only have the technology to make it both possible and pleasurable but we also have the larger economic and societal circumstances that can allow it to be more than a niche activity.
Imagine that at any given time, a viewer could find out precisely what the person on screen was wearing, or what types of pans were used in an episode of Chef’s Table, for example, and then with a click, the viewer could buy it. Using a phone as a second screen, this type of shopping wouldn’t even have to pause the program if other people were also watching.
Scary or awesome?
