When nothing goes right in your life, when you feel like it can't get any worse, that you think you've reached your limits and you said “I can’t take another thing”. And then out of nowhere, here comes something you didn’t see coming…
Does that remind you of anything? If yes, then it's time to learn how to “decatastrophizing”. Taking time to show ourselves that while the adversity is real, it is perhaps not as catastrophic as we may have made it out to be.
Why that ? Because thousands of years of evolution have made us so remarkably good at adapting to even the most extreme life circumstances, adversity never hits us quite as hard or for quite as long, as we think it might.
I'm sure you can see the situations I'm referring to. Those moments when you think everything is ruined, but when you look at the situation a few years later, you realize that it is not that bad. You even realize that this hardship has helped you to change your path for the better.
So the next time you catch yourself feeling hopeless about some frustration at your job or some disappointment in your personal life, remember that there is another way to look at the situation, remember that success is not about never falling down or even simply about falling down and getting back up over and over.
