Why I'm counting my calories and you should do it too.
1% better every day at 11:11am - newsletter #026
On May 1, 2020, I started counting my calories. I can reassure you right away, it's something I would have never seen myself doing just a few months ago! I always laughed at people who prepared their meals in tupperware on weekends for the whole week.
But after taking an online training course in nutrition, I decided to give it a try and experiment this basic principle by myself.
The only effective way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. It sounds obvious but in reality it's not. There are two main reasons for this:
We overestimate the number of calories we burn.
We underestimate the number of calories we eat.
So I bought a food scale and downloaded the MyFitnessPal app to count all the calories I eat every day (See screenshot below). It was a revelation!
I just realized that you can eat "healthy" and consume "way too many" calories. I don't plan on doing this for the rest of my life. It's very constraining.
But I recommend that you do the exercise over 4 or 6 weeks for:
Finally see objectively the volume of calories you consume (and understand "why I am not losing weight?").
To be aware of the caloric intake of the foods you usually eat.
Adjust quantities to reasonable proportions.
Analyze the times of the day "when things go wrong".

If you click on the "share" button under an old article you've spotted on Facebook, an alert message will be displayed in the form of a notification, stating "This article is more than X months/years old". You will then have the choice to "go back", and therefore not share the article, or to continue, and knowingly share it. The feature should be deployed worldwide in the coming weeks.
